Shinobi No Mono Demo – Cherry Blossom Festival: March 16, 2008
Posted by bmsdojo in EVENTS.trackback
The Musha Shugyo Bujinkan Dojo of Philadelphia will explore the concept of ‘shinobi’ in conjunction with a showing of the classic jidaigeki ninja film, Shinobi no Mono(1962). Led by instructor Phillip Hevener, the students of Musha Shugyo Dojo study under the tradition carried on by Grandmaster Hatsumi Masaaki, who, along with his sensei, Takamatsu Toshitsugu (33rd Grandmaster), acted as a technical advisor to the film (Hatsumi also served as an advisor to the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice, which replicated an assassination technique from Shinobi no Mono). At intermission they will demonstrate evasion, escape, and stealth techniques of the historical ninja, while also beginning to explore the more esoteric connotations of shinobi which permeates all aspects of Bujinkan taijutsu or ninjutsu. After the film they will delve further into the transcendant implications of the shinobi concept as it relates to the meditative or mushin state central to budo-taijutsu. Techniques from the film, particularly the action packed conclusion, will serve as points of discussion and demonstration.
